Emission Warning Symbol

Post by Hedge »

Anyone else been having problems with the regular appearance of the the emission warning symbol on the dash board in a s60? The emiission warning symbol is yellow and looks like an engine block.

My s60 is just one year old and the problem just won't go away. It started at around 6 months old and now, after just one year and 13k kilometers, it is back for the fifth time. Each time I go back to the dealer, they check, and tell me there is no error message and, ergo, no problem. The first time it occurred, the work-shop manager told me I could safely ignore the icon, then changed his mind when I asked him to give me the advice again, in writing.

Each time the problem occurs, the engine power drops significantly as if you brake sharply, and then carries on "normally". I have had to cancel two long-distance trips due to this problem. Anyone heard of others with the same problem?

Sounds like the Check Engine light, as 850 owners know it. It's emissions, you're right.

I'd ask the dealer for the codes your ECU is storing for that. They're three digits, like 212 (front O2 sensor). Post back here if/when you get them.

Like Matthew said, get your codes read, but with later model Volvo's I believe you'll have a Pxxx code, not necessarily a 3 digit code (example: P0440).
