Terra clean/combustion chamber decarbonizing

Post by kahl »

I recently saw a video with wheeler dealer using a machine called a terra clean to clean out carbon and crud in the combustion chamber and valves. This machine was plumbed into the fuel line and it pumped two different chemicals into the fuel intake.

Has anyone used this system?
Does it work as advertised?
Is there a downside to this type of chemical cleaning?

I've never heard of it but Seafoam seems to do a dandy job and it is fairly cheap and easy.

I tried it back in 2001 and a lot of my friends too.In my case, the machine was called WYNN'S and chemicals were also from wynns.

It works like this...they disconnect the fuel line at the top of the timing belt cover and they attach feed line from the machine with allready mixed chemicals. They start the engine and let it idle for 15-20 min. After that they rev it a little for about next 10 minutes. After that they disconnect Wynns machine, reconnect fuel line and the process of about 30min is completed.

Personally,i didn't notice any improvements because my car was almost new in that time, but my friends did. They had a lesser fuel consumption, better response on gas pedal, quieter engine...etc.

The system cleans the whole engine...fuel injectors, deposits from valves, combustion chamber...everything and all of the dirt ejects via exhaust. After the process is completed you will notice a big black stain under the exhaust tail pipe.

I'm still waiting for the "here is the picture of my intake before the TREATMENT and here is the picture of it AFTER the treatment". I'm not talking about this treatment in particular, any of them. SeaFoam, Lucas, etc.

Clean injectors will always help. Not sure how much junk any chemicals can clean off the intake walls or valve stems.

I got the Terra Clean job done on my car when it had about 150k miles. I personally didn't notice any difference but then i was using Seafoam every 10k miles prior to this job.

I think i'll just stick with Seafoam.

Considering how much carb cleaner and rags I used to clean the intake ports of my 850 turbo engine, I really doubt anything in a bottle would work better.
