I'm hearing a slight clinking noise when I drive over bumps. It is only audible when I have the windows rolled down; however, if I apply the brakes when I drive over bumps, the noise goes away.
I had my front struts, spring seats and mounts replaced with an alignment about 7 days ago. This made my car ride much smoother, but that clinking noise is still there. Checked the strut mounts again — they seem fine. Mechanic mentioned no issues with the sway bars and end links while installing the struts. I've tried myself to push and pull on them, and they all feel solid.
The control arm bushings look like they could benefit from replacement, but they don't look terrible, and it doesn't seem to make sense for it to be the control arms if the clinking noise goes away when I apply the brakes. I'm no expert, so I could be wrong.
I almost want to take apart my brake calipers and inspect them for any loose parts. Could it be a brake pad rattling or something? It sounds more like metal on metal, rather than ceramic on metal. It's a lighter sounding clink, rather than a dull, heavy clunk.
Any ideas would be very appreciated.
