2000 c70 Convertible Top Malfunction

Post by chavener95 »

I recently purchased a 2000 c70 Manual Transmission with 164,000 miles. After a recent hail storm, the rear glass was broken out. Unfortunately, you have to replace the entire top and not just the glass.

Prior to the storm the top lowered & raised flawlessly.

After the rear window (w/defrost) was broken out the rear portion of the roof would cycle up and then stop. The deck lid would not lift anymore. If I depressed the button again, then the front latches on the windshield would disengage and the front would lift about 4 inches and then stop. After this, nothing more would work and the light would flash on the Roof Button.

When I manually lowered the roof (w/the tools provided) I could not drive without the alarm for the roof sounding. When I manually raised the roof, then the alarm would stop.

I just had the entire top replaced, new glass, etc. My thought was that since the roof was replaced and the battery disconnected (to clear any fault codes) that everything would be "okay".

It's not.

The roof still behaves the same (stopping during the cycle, the deck lid not lifting, the front hooks disengaging and then stopping 4 inches above the windshield.

Is there a reset that I can do to correct this? It's as if the motor that raises the deck lid is not working now because I manually lowered & raised the roof with the tools.

I have checked the fuses and the potentiameters have power to them.

Help?

We have a 2000 C70 convert in the family that the roof cycle sequence catastrophically failed breaking many of the components of the roof mechanism. My opinion is that these soft roofs should be taken to a service center that has experience with this top. You need to have the Volvo vida system to set up the soft top cycle but also to see if there is any of the microswitches or other components that are not functioning.
As much as we like to perform our own maintenance this is one item that we will farm out. No exceptions. Breaking or bending anything on this top is expensive.
