2002 S6 2.0T Trunk-locking problem

My trunk lid has, for some reason, decided it does not want to lock. Normally, closing the lid firmly will activate the locking mechanism, but now that's not happening. I've tried locking it with the key manually, but nothing happens then either. Anyone (a) had this problem and (b) got any tips?

Play around with the trunk release on the inner trunk lid, the one that you would use to escape from the trunk if you were locked in. They will stick sometimes and the trunk will not latch shut.

Thanks for your response, but having checked inside the lid I can't find any obvious release mechanism, that is, unless it's something which can only be accessed by removing the pane from inside the lid first. Is that what you mean?

I see your location now. You are in another country. I believe the trunk escape feature is only on US cars.

Sorry for resurrecting a 4 year old thread, but where is the inner trunk release located? My trunk won't lock (key won't turn when inserted into lock) and my fuel door lock mechanism is non-functional.
