I have a 2000 S80 T6 with the HU801 I believe. It has an internal antenna (inside the A pillar I think) but I have two reception problems that are getting on my nerves. These have been this way since I bought the car 3 years ago.
1. AM radio is really spotty. I listen to baseball on the way home and it has awful reception. Sometimes I can clear it up by opening and closing the power window. Weird, but it often works, but a bump will reset that.
2. Lots of times, my FM radio say SEARCH or SEARCHING when I switch stations using presets. I can use the tuner and move it a 0.1 MHz and back and it'll pick up crystal clear, but that always surprises me.
Anyone have any advice? I have yet to check the connection in the back of the radio, but plan to soon to see if the AM problem is with a loose connection.
Antenna problem?
Just bumping this to see if anyone knows about the antennas or AM radio. I found out how to remove the radio and will check it out tonight, but I'd appreciate a little insight on any of the idiosyncrasies of Volvo/Euro antennae

If it's like an S60 you need a brass strip
Ask your Volvo dealer. It's a $10 parts that goes into the antenna but don't ask me where, I personally never did this mod but it works

I am having a problem with mine. What I have to do is slide the radio out and pull/push the antenna where it enters the radio. It picks up immediately. If not it will seek and scan for about 5 minutes until it locks into a channel.
There is a thread somewhere that talks about corrosion at the socket, but I am yet to go into a possible fix. Maybe the aforementioned $10 part is at this junction.
