2007 C30 2.0D Serpentine Belt

Post by mm60103 »

Hi

Alternator crocked on my Volvo C30 so set off to replace it. Alternator accessibility doesn't rate high in the competition for good design but it's off now and I thought I was ready to install the replacement.

At this point it's all gone a bit pear shaped.

Taking the old generator off I remember taking the top bolt out and pulling the alternator towards the front of the car. This caused the belt to slacken. As I have the belt on now I can't get it to tighten and pushing the alternator into its correct position causes the belt to slacken rather than tighten.

First instance has anyone got a drawing please of the belt route.

I'm going CW round the flywheel, ACW round the tensioner, ACW round the AC pump and finally ACW around the alternator.

I'm only going round one tensioner but search engines suggest maybe 2.

The tensioner I have seems pretty solid to me and its not obvious it is springing anywhere. Once I have installed it is there anything I need to do to it - safety catch type of thing to release the tension.

Many thanks

Looking in VIDA, at a 2007 C30 with a B5254T3 engine, shows TWO accessory belts, as my V50 has. If this isnt the car, I can look it up if I have the VIN number.
