1996 Volvo 850 Fused drainage pipe under climate control

Post by Redneck »

Hi, I am working on my evaporator right now and I see a strange looking drainage pipe end that goes from the climate control unit to the center console floor (see picture). The end of the pipe looks like it is fused. There is no hole. Is this the AC condensation water drain? If yes, it is completely fused. I actually have a problem now with AC condensation water drainage. It is not draining. I wonder is this the cause? or is the AC drainage somewhere else. My thought is the catalytic converter gets too hot on the inlet and melted the plastic from that pipe end fusing it.

I also broke two dashboard mounts and need to attach them. Is there a fix that has proven to work permanently forever? I see people drilling holes putting aluminum sheet stripes, using epoxy. Does this withstand the test of time? Has anyone done it successfully without having to redo it? What is the recommended epoxy for this? I can only walk to Lowes and Home Depot to get stuff. There are some marine stores around as well but much farther to walk. I might be able to get fiberglass/resin or west system, but from what I read fiberglass does not attach to the dashboard plastic.

That is the AC drain, I don't remember what mine looked like on the bottom when I did my evap on my 99. I thought it was just open, with no check valve. Does it look melted on the end?

Is that a "check valve" on the pipe end? It looks to me like it is fused. There is not hole at the end of that pipe.

I see, It is something Volvo put there. Vida calls it Hose connection PN 8663397. I will pull it off to look at it. My AC is not draining condensation water now. Is this the only pipe that would get clogged?

My biggest problem are the broken dashboard mounts. When I go through the fixes people do on this or other forums by Ozark Lee etc.. nothing seems to work permanently. The mounts break away no matter what fix people do. Was anyone successful? and how did you do it? What materials did you use and where did you get them?

If you have the plastic mount pieces you can use any two part epoxy or JB weld to put the back in place. This worked with my 1999 and I don't have dash squeaks any more.

I like Loctite epoxy but there are several good brands. West system epoxy will stick to plastic and most everything for that matter..you will pay a 3-5x premium at a marine store though.

I started posting about the broken mounts under a more relevant topic here:
