General question re VIDA software

Since I already own an Actron OBD-II scanner, is there any advantage of buying Volvo DiCE tool?
In other words, what can Volvo DiCE tool diagnose that the standard OBD-II tool cannot do?

Why would anyone use VIDA-DiCE for just diagnostic. There are better and simple choices for ODB-II interface.

VIDA-DiCE acquisition would allow for system management in ECU, but that is limited. No ECM, ETM upgrade, nor TCM adaptation is possible without Volvo subscription.

It provides procedures for Volvo's authorized way of repair. Waste of good money or a step closer?

TCM Adaptation doesn't require subscription. I've done it many times. It's built into the Vida software.

Also the sheer power and diagnostic testing ability in ALL systems of the vehicle surpasses anything out there. There are multiple test simulations in each module of the car.

Also the Dice unit has allowed me to reflash multiple ETMs courtesy of MVS member doublebug. If I wanted to do the same with a CCM, DDM, PDM, REM, (pretty much any module excluding CEM) I could perform this with the Dice.

My question is for the "average" car owner (like myself), I don't own a repair shop or fix anyone else's car and no need to reflash the ETM etc.

Since I already have the Actron OBD-II tool, could you guys give me real practical scenarios that the "average" car owner needs VIDA, DiCE?

There are around 15 modules in the XC90 and in any P2 series Volvo.

Take your pick as to which one will need to be read in the next 24-36 months (hopefully more in your case )

Practical scenarios? My 2002XC70 had a DDM (driver's door) module flagged with an error code. Had I replaced it when I scanned it I wouldn't have had a flat battery 2 months later and had to remove the DDM fuse and have no window control.

The Vida/Dice can read and reset them all.

An Actron will probably read the ECM and TCM and provide live data but don't expect it to clear SRS codes or read or reset any other module in the car.

An Autel EU-702 would be a better choice when/if things get complicated however this is also limited in capabilities on a later Volvo.
