1999 v70 t5 rough idle in neutral and park.

Post by aharres »

Hello. I recently did my pcv service and I noticed ever since then, my car has been idling a bit rough. When I start it cold, the idle is smooth as a sewing machine. But, as it warms up, it will start to pulsate or something. The idle speed doesn't change and is staying rock solid at 850 rpms. Once the car starts getting warm, it will pulsate 2 or 3 times a second. I'm not sure if pulsate is the right word to describe it, but it feels like a sort of shudder and you mostly just feel it, but you can also hear it if you're listening well. The weird thing is, when it's engaged in a gear like drive or reverse, it's smooth again. Also, the car has lots of power and it doesn't have any other driveability issues. I checked my vacuum lines and they look to be in decent shape.

Check your intake manifold bolts. Do you have a CEL?

I will retorque the intake manifold bolts tomorrow. Good idea. I have no check engine lights on and I noticed I get the same symptoms on a cold start but it is much more mild.

I retorqued the manifold and the problem persists. I notice it is shaking even if i hold the rpms at 2000 rpms in neutral. It just feels uneven like it is no burning the same in one of the cylinders. I did an injecor service as well and had to bang on the injectors pretty hard to get the baskets in. Could this have damaged the injector? Another thing to note. After doing the pcv service and going on my first test drive my throttle body intercooler hose clamp was loose and the hose blew off during a WOT run. Could this foul a spark plug since it probably ran very rich?

It turned out to be a crack in the manifold. the intake manifold spacer allowed the edge of the manifold to collapse the spacer and therefore crack the manifold. All of my bolts were bent and had to be replaced. I think it was because I was using the torque wrench with a universal joint at a high angle.
