2001 volvo s60 2.4t SRS Airbag service urgent !

Car failed mot today because of srs airbag service urgent text displayed on instrument cluster.code 26 .

The red air bag light on the instrument cluster goes out as normal on ignition . However i have srs airbag text displayed . Should they have failed this as the red light goes out as normal indicating everything is working ok ?

I would think that if they failed you then they know more about it than anyone else.
In the US they fail emissions inspections for check engine light on whether or not the fault is still present.
I would suspect the thought behind this is that the inpectors can only know if the warning message or light is legitimate by doing scan tool diagnostics. Diagnostics is not their job.
For airbag systems the warnings usually do not go out unless a diagnostic is attached, codes read, and then cleared.
Look for a shop with Autel, Autologic, VIDA, or Launch as those tools will clear SRS codes.

Don't know if it's reasonable to fail the mot with only the urgent service message. it's usually an indication there was a network communication issue. the message can be erased only by the Volvo dealer or with a Vida dice.
