'07 S60 Itermittent TPMS Priblem

Post by vtdog »

My '07 S60 AWD shows a fault code "Tire Pressure System" and a flashing tire symbol on an intermittent basis. It mostly happens when driving on the highway and clears after the engine is shut off once or twice. The fault is for the TPMS system, not the tires, but I checked the tire pressure and its fine (including the "spare"). Anyone have any idea of the problem. I was told by a non-Volvo mechanic that the battery or batteries in one or more of the tires may be going bad, but as the system clears itself I don't know how a battery could be the problem.

Thanks

WHen you drive down the road the system is active 100%. WHen you slow down and stop the sensor goes off and a weak battery can recover a bit.

Your symptoms are common for TPMS sensors failing.
If you go somewhere with a tester that activates sensor to give readouts often getting readout repeatedly will let you see a sensor that fails after 3rd readout.

How many miles on car? time above 8 mph or so is the determinant of battery life in addition to calendar.

Thanks for the reply. I will take it to the place I bought tires to see if they can fix. It only has 50,000 miles.
