'98 V70 GLT Ticking

Post by MoparWade »

Was out driving this evening. Decided I hadn't really opened it up in a while. Mash the pedal and as soon as the boost built up it started missing. Pulled into my driveway a minute later and noticed the I now have a ticking. Not quite a knock like a spun bearing but what sounds like some one tapping a screwdriver against metal. It matches my RPM and doesn't seem to flutter. Dead lifter? Ideas?

Is it still missing? Do you have a CEL? You might have a burnt valve.

No CEL. I actually suspect that the miss was caused by the boost going above what I am tuned for but I still feel like there must be some connection.

Does the noise reduce when adding oil?

Haven't added any oil yet. If it is a lifter it is just one.

Added oil and no change. It did seem to be a bit louder with cold start.

Bent connecting rod, piston skirt rattle.
If it is too fast for lifter rattle then this is a real possibility. Lifter rattle is once every two crank revolutions.

Did it run REALLY good just prior to the misfiring like symptoms?

Bent rod caused piston skirt rattle will sound out louder behind and below exhaust manifold.
