2000 V70 a/c fan speeds up when braking

Post by tyocelot »

This is my first post in this forum.

I have a 2000 V70 and the a/c is giving me problems. About a week ago I noticed that when I had the fan on high (not on auto), that the fan would speed up when I braked. Then about 2 days ago, the fan completely stopped blowing. My brother removed the fan motor and tested it and it is working. He reconnected it. One time he turned on the car and the fan turned on and ran. The next time, nothing. We're wondering if one of the sensors or relays are out? Any way to tell that without taking it to the dealer? Is there a way to re-calibrate the ecc? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

The bushing in one end of fan motor that controls the end float (axial control of motor shaft) wears and it binds and makes brush contact worse. Those things will slow motor down but when you brake and the armature moves forward it releases the bind and speeds up. When you had the blower out could you grab fan wheel and pull it up and down?

Barely, but not any more than it should have been.

Mine sped up and down with movement of the connector. The new replacement from IPD wasn't cheap but we had a harsh winter and I got my money's worth out of it!!

Thread on replacement posted in March I think

My brother figured it out. The barons in the blow motor have gone out, so I'll be ordering a new blow motor. Thanks for the help!

Really glad you posted this problem! Was driving my son's car today and had the exact same problem. When I braked the fan sped up, and when I accelerated it almost stopped. Typical, the car is to be sold and this happens. Fan on order.
