Dash lights out on 1998 V70R

I made probably a less-than-wise decision while sitting in the car waiting. I did a quick search but didn't see anything that looks like it relates (i.e., usually a dimmer or headlight switch is faulty).

I have a few bulbs out in the dash switches (fog lights, etc). So, while waiting with the engine off and key removed from the ignition, I popped out the rear fog light switch, which is out, and took the bulb out. I could immediately see that it was burnt and busted, so I put it back in so I wouldn't lose it.

However, now all my dash and switch lights won't come on when the headlight switch is turned on. All the other interior lights still work, though. I checked the fuse, and it's good. I know there is a relay to check, but having never inspected relays, how do I know what to look for? Can I run a voltage test to see if that's the problem?

Immediately above the rear fog light switch is the dimmer slide switch. It is possible that you have disturbed the wiring behind the dimmer when you pushed the fog light switch back in. You may even have moved the slide to the left putting out the lights.

To get the dimmer switch out you need to pull the rear fog light switch out first.

Yeah, I feel like an idiot. After the dash lights went out last night I was fiddling with everything I could find and nothing worked. I went and reseated the connections tonight, made sure the dimmer was set hight enough, and they worked. So, it looks good now.
