Re: 2005 XC70 A/C working and then stopping
I did the bread clip fix about 3000 miles ago. It works. Look further down the list of posts to see my short write-up. The dealer wanted $1200 to replace the entire compressor and clutch. Just an aftermarket clutch is a bit more than $100 on eBay. Getting the pulley off (gotta drop the engine to get to it) and removing one of the shims would be cleaner; but three bread clips and 15 minutes to install have lasted 3000 miles so far for me. Look at the uTube video posted by texascoder doing the AC clutch on an XC90 to see the clutch disassembly.

Tylka, are you sure the compressor is not kicked it constantly and the evaporator is just freezing up? (I checked your profile to get an idea or your local climate and sure enough, TN = humidity.) When the AC stops blowing cold is the volume from the vents still at a high level and just warm, or does the air volume diminish? Also, have you verified that the center part of the compressor pulley is not turning?

My 2004 XC70 is doing the same thing (151K miles). However, mine is also running/blowing while the car is off (as in for just a few minutes to several days) with the key in my purse in the house.
I'm going to have my husband check the pulley & hopefully that will fix it but has anyone else had their AC run off key??

That sounds like just the fan blower is running, not the AC compressor, Yorkie.yorkiemomaws wrote:My 2004 XC70 is doing the same thing (151K miles). However, mine is also running/blowing while the car is off (as in for just a few minutes to several days) with the key in my purse in the house.

Do you mean you get air flow in the car or are you just hearing the fans under the hood after shutdown?
Airflow in the car is a fault, fans under hood is normal in KY.
