Knock-offs. Fake parts. It's lucrative to take a $25 MAF and counterfeit it to sell for $100-$200 as a Bosch. It's such a problem for Bosch that they now seal their boxes with a foil tape the has a QR code on it that you can use your smart phone to take you to a site that verifies it is original Bosch and was manufactured in one of their plants on a certain date.gentlejax wrote:erikv11 wrote:The remans seem to be hit and miss, overall. That's what all three of mine are: Cardone Remans but stamped Bosch. I'm assuming Cardone had Bosch shells and replaced the internal components. I believe I spent around a hundred bucks for the Cardones.

Since there isn't a clear standard for what the verbiage "remanufactured" even means I don't see how it's worthwhile to even talk about reliability of such parts. In this biz, what a re-manufacturer can get as incoming cores can change dramatically over the course of a year. What they actually do to remanufacture it is anyone's guess.
This is a critical part of the induction system and not one I want to play with, especially if I want longevity out if the car.

no Im trying to get clear answers so next guy understands that there are some refurbished units and some fake cloned units out there ...as welll as some Cardone units with Bosch on them but maybe less reliable internals...
all of this I know now only cause I asked. Before it was just a smug get a bosch and no other details..
now its clear its not that simple and when ordering people will need to verify its legit bosch and not remanufactured shell with junk parts.
its a little different when explained rather than " just get the $200 bosch " as I was told originally.
apparently there are some other possible Bosch mafs out there that may not be 100% legit or 100% bosch.
none of this was very clear until I asked and some of the people stated what they bought.

thanks for that info..it may help next guy understand what he is getting instead of thinking its bosch just cause it says bosch when its possible its just bosch on the tube.

I've always thought that in the major parts stores, "rebuilt" means only parts that were bad were swapped, "re-manufactured" means that all working components--other than housing--have been replaced, and "new" is completely new. reason I brought up remanufactured was only wondering if bosch did any of that themselves and sold them. if that were the case then what would the difference even be than new? should be none.
so here is what I have got from this thread.
1.most suggest Bosch cause on average they are more reliable.
2.There are bosch mafs out there that may not be original new bosch and may have inferior sensors.
3. there are bosch fakes out there
in my case its only $100 for new bosch from FCP so its not a huge deal. I wouldnt spend $35 on junk only to have to buy it over and over.

MVS is an incredible resource due to the presence of a couple of dozen extremely dedicated experts on these cars, self not included, that share that knowledge and their time for free.
I don't like to see threads where people get ruffled, we spend a lot of back and forth and end up exactly at the same knowledge point we started at, which is what happened here. In forums, that kind of practice drives away the very talent that makes it valuable
If a user reads through these pages for 30 minutes, and doesn't respect the knowledge base here, you are too smart for us and that's fine.
As always, any comments on Board policy and/or moderation go direct to Matt by PM
