Another (new) ETM bites the dust

Post by precopster »

Just got in a customer's ETM that was from an '01 XC70. Unit was a factory rebuild # 36050563 only 12 months old (July 2013) Body was an original '99 build 9186793 as Vida always reports the original number. This suggests that Volvo is not replacing the circuit board when they are refurbishing them.

It already has a contactless Sacer sensor fitted by Volvo. (this is what Volvo has to use to overcome faulty XeModex units and failed DIY attempts where the shaft is cut)

Codes were position sensors 1 & 2 (914F) and faulty current code. Car started well and drove for 20 minutes then when it was restarted went into limp mode with no warning. Multiple resets by Vida showed no improvement.

Goes to show what a weak product the Magnetti Marelli circuit board is. Better to buy new (36001822 or 36001821) or pay very little for refurbs.
