1999 V70r - Pegasus Wheel Repair Project
So I purchased a 1999 V70r that had a blown head gasket as a project to kill some time. The car is in pretty great shape, but the wheels were curbed up like they let a blind guy parallel park for them. I have only repaired wheels once before, and this is certainly something that gets easier and looks better with practice. I even left the tires on when I did the repairs, just deflated them all the way. To start, I took the wheels of the car and cleaned them up completely. No brake dust or grease or anything. Then I took some 120 grit then 220 grit sandpaper and knocked down all the sharp edges left from the curbing. I then took some glazing/spot putty (Pretty much bondo) and filled in around all the edges. I let the putty dry completely and sanded with 220 grit and did again. After sanding the second round, I took some self etching primer and shot the whole wheel with it. Once that dried, a little filler primer to get rid of any remaining sanding marks. I took 800 grit sandpaper and went of the whole wheel to get any high spots. They were then ready for paint. I happened to have a few cans of semi gloss black header paint in my garage, so I just used those up. Turned out pretty good. I then plasti-dipped the wheels in black. The plasti-dip allowed me to hide any remaining imperfections on the wheels. I have to say I like it. Red with black wheels is kinda my thing, and I do it on most of my red cars, even though it is getting a little played out, I still like the look. Here are a few shots of the wheels. Honestly this is the second set of wheels that I have done. It took me several days with letting everything dry properly and what not. I even re-did two wheels because I didn't like how they turned out just before I painted them. The car is down due to the headgasket failure right now, so I had ample time to do it. My new cylinder head from Clearwater doesn't come in until tomorrow, so being in no big rush was the key. Taking your time and not being afraid to redo sections if need be is key. I think I could have done better, but unless you are 2 inches away, you would never know. The plasti-dip really helps hide minor imperfections really well too. Thanks for the compliments. Don't be afraid to try it yourself. Not that hard, just time consuming.

Since the V70r is down for repairs, I have had to drive my weekend car on a more regular basis. I think I will make do since the weather has been so nice lately.
I am excited to get the volvo back up and running again though. They are truly a blast to drive. It has been a lot of work getting all the Stage 0 stuff done while I am in there too, so I am anxious to see all the hard work pay off.
