*mnsherk - Thanks for the tip with the pics - I did the same thing today, and it works like a champ. Tips like this are what make this site such a great resource. Thanks So Much!

I want to add another thanks for the strap solution. My kids (and their friends) have been dealing with a rear door that wouldn't open for a year or more. They'll be thrilled to have this fixed. Please excuse me if I don't give any credit here and try to get some props from my kids for being a super Dad and figuring it all out by myself. :)

Ive submitted this thread to Matt for inclusion in the Repair database since it sure looks popular for the XC90 crowd!

Adding another thank you to this thread. Thanks to the instructions, I was able to remove the rear passenger door panel and discovered the cable from the door latch was dangling free. One of the (brittle) plastic pieces that holds it in place had cracked. I also ran a plastic strap between the 2 torx screws to keep the mechanism in place. Kids are happy to no longer be trapped in the car in that side.

A much easier solution is to just epoxy the cable back into the broken handle. I did mine years ago.

This post was very helpful-- thank you mnsherk! I was able to fix my door in 30 minutes. To help understand how to take the door off I also went to Youtube to see a demonstration.
