2004 V70 Flickering headlights engine jerked
I need help once again. My car with 138000 miles and many repairs did some strange things Thursday night on a short drive home. I had my bright lights on and I noticed that my headlights seemed to dim or flicker randomly a few times and my message board put a message up but it went out so quickly I could not read it. Then the car jerked at around 30 miles an hour pretty significantly. The car never stalled and the radio and ac were working normally. I dropped off my family and rode around for a few more minutes with no problem but one. When I put the turn signal on the message board game on again for a second and went out. I took it to Oreillys and the tested the alternator and all was well even when I turned the ac up full blast and turned on bright lights and a turn signal. It ran at 14 volts. I looked for stored messages and it showed none. There were no check engine lights or codes etc. No odd smells or noises. The Oreillys man did note that my compressor was cycling on and off and said the refrigerant could be low and all that cycling could draw some power from the car. I will have the refrigerant checked Monday but the compressor was replaced one year ago. Transmission had the software download over two years ago and was determined to be mechanically sound by the dealership. I am at a loss. Battery is also a couple of years old. Any direction is appreciated. Thanks!!!
Took car to the mechanic. I have driven it on several small trips locally and it has been perfectly fine. Mechanic checked the freon and filled it with a can and 1/2. He checked transmission fluid and it looked good. No codes so we do not know what to look for. Praying nothing else goes wrong. I have replaced everything on this car practically so keeping my fingers crossed this was just one bad 10 minute drive.

Looks to be the typical network communication issue that is very hard to diagnose. Several electrical components 'communicate' with each other and when one has an issue, several others are affected causing troubles like instruments panel display issues, engine performance issues, sometimes even transmission performance issues. Some point to the CEM module located behind the drivers side dash or to the ABS module, but the causes could be multiple.

Thanks for your response. I wonder if it could be the voltage regulator too. I have been driving it locally and it is still acting fine. I am going to try a longer trip into town but won't ever be comfortable again.

You have the factory HID right, thought I read about issue w/the ballast on these not actual bulb that's faulty.leehigdon wrote:Thanks for your response. Just wanted to post an update. Over three weeks later and many longer local trips later the car has been fine. I am now thinking it was a parasitic one time draw as one person suggested. My daughter may not have closed the door the whole way and the light may have stayed on in the car for a few hours?? I am still a bit nervous, but the car has not acted up once:)
