1996 850GLT What's the best front CV axle shaft
I replaced both CV axle shafts less than a year ago w/Napa brand parts, needless to say that the outer boots barely lasted threw the winter. I can't seem to find receipts for parts and Napa by me doesn't record warranty info via network like most other auto parts vendors. I only use them cause there the only game in my town, everything else is a bit of a ride. I'm looking for suggestions/opinions on the best CV axle shafts for the '96 850GLT (2.4L N/A). She's basically factory w/exception of throttle body plate(960 TBP)mod, air box stat. mod, 255lph Walbro FP & a Magnaflow cat. I'm not looking for better CV axles due to performance mods, I'm looking for durability and long life.

The best are factory Volvo. Mine are 258k miles and 18 years old. I replaced the boots with a factory Volvo boot kit at around 150k.
Cheapest way out is as cn90 says, replace the boots

Anything non-Volvo is a crap shoot for axles. Rebuilding the factory axles at raxles.com is still the only certain route I have ever seen. Since your car's are gone now, +1 to cn90's comment.

All the rebuild CV axles I get from OReilly have a lifetime warranty. I always put the receipt in the glove box.shiloh51933 wrote:I replaced both CV axle shafts less than a year ago w/Napa brand parts, needless to say that the outer boots barely lasted threw the winter. Napa doesn't record warranties on there network like O'Reilly's and just about everyone else. I have receipts for everything but can't seem to find these...f@#k!!kahl wrote:as Jeff said the O'Reilleys reman axles are a good value. I got a pair last month and they were $65.00 each. The warranty is under my phone number so I do not have to save receipt.

There done...started clicking since the boots tore 6 months ago, we got less than 6 months out of the out boots. I figured I'd ride them out since I won't get a replacement for lack of invoice documents.cn90 wrote:If the CV Joint is not damaged, put a new boot on.
GKN boot only, about $12.

I've heard good things about raxles but have no personal experience running w/them. It's hard for me to take time to remove/replace cv joint boots, u gotta clean the joint up real good, grease and install w/factory boot replacement. This car has been my DD since my Maxima got hit then starting having issues (+-)charging issues. I put over 100k daily for work reasons and drive my '99 Honda Prelude 5/MT on my leisure time. Anyway, I just got an '04 Volvo XC70 2.5L LPT and will be mixing it up w/the '96 Volvo 850GLT 2.4l for work. Thanks for all the replies relating to my issue with CV axles, I think I'm going to try raxles if I can't get a good price on OEM.erikv11 wrote:Anything non-Volvo is a crap shoot for axles.
