1996 Volvo 850 Turbo Driver's Power Window Switch

Post by ufos8mycow »

My driver's side power window button isn't working. I got one from the JY but it's not working either.

So until I can get back to the JY to exchange it I was wondering if there is any way to switch out one of the other buttons for the drivers.

Is there a way to exchange the two rear buttons for the two front ones?

Thanks!

Chances are it's not the switch...perhaps the motor or the window tracks that have caused a motor failure

I disagree - Historically, these motors hold up pretty well.
But find out for sure by pulling the door panel and putting
power straight to it. Then go from there. My money is on
bad switches, the auto-down relay or the wiring run.

It's just terrible design from Volvo. The cup holders are right above the switch pack and over 20 years a few gallons of water and soda drip into it. Of the 4 packs I found at the JY they all had a bunch of dried crud on them. I'm just trying to save $150 for a new pack until I can get the other problems with the car looked at.

The person I bought it from told me someone broke the window with a brick and it landed on the switch pack. When the repairman replaced the window he swapped out his own pack to roll up the window so I think it's the switch.

The drivers button on the pack is also cracked open and it is just clicking instead of a smooth press like the other 3.

I was hoping to be able to just change some wires around and use a different button for the driver's window until I can buy a working pack but after opening the pack it seems like it would require a little more work than it's probably worth.

Unless you guys know of a simpler way of doing it.
