89 Volvo 740 TurHigh pitch squeal followed by loss of power
i have a 89 Volvo 740 Turbo 104K miles. The turbo started to have a high pitched squeal. I drove it home and just before I got home, It would lose power whenever the turbo would kick on (based on the gauge). Any ideas what to check?

If it is like a high pitch squeal then the pump is going bad there might be some water in it. Sometimes the battery leaks acid into it and the acid eats up the pump. You have the same problem as with my dad, i guess replacing a new one would be the best way, that's the only thing he did. Perhaps you should purchase a high quality Volvo 740 Parts. That was what he did when he was in that situation same as yours.

check all your intake hoses by that i mean check hoses from intake to turbo check all hose clamps for tight and check hoses for being cracked an intake leak will cause the high pitched noise and definitely a loss of power.let me know what you find.
