2000 V70 GLT Central locking system
The central locking system on my V70 does not work any longer. I checked the fuse under the hood and its fine. Also, I have heard about an auxiliary fuse box in the back of my wagon, but I have been unable to locate it. Any guidance? Any ideas ideas for my locks?

Does it work by turning the key inserted in the driver's door? Try the driver's door inside switch because this is often the point where the fault lies as these switches begin to go bad. Does that switch unlock the doors after you manually push each door lock down? If so you have found the culprit.

Does your remote work, with fresh batteries of course?

I gave up for a while, but now I am back. The central lock fuse is fine, but I cannot open the passenger door on the driver's side and the tailgate now will not unlock or open. The fuel door would not release either but I pried it open. I do not have a key fob. Any help is appreciated.

The key only unlocks the driver door. Pressing the central lock switch does nothing. I am afraid to lock any door for fear it will not open again.

The key will always manually unlock the driver door and liftgate. Other doors can be manually unlocked by pulling up the knobs once inside the car.

Very likely therein lies your problem. Pull one from a junk yard, or switchdoctor.com sells a decent aftermarket driver door switch unit for about $55. Their website tells you how to change it--very easy.

The knobs on both the door and lift gate will not unlock, even manually. I tried to pull them...nothing. I am tempted to put a Visegrip on them and pull like heck, but past experience tells me I will just break something else. I am new to Volvos, what is the black rubber covered thing on the lift gate? What is its function? Thanks.

What is the "button" on the handle on the back lift gate? It is on the outside of the door. I opened the button cover, which revealed a thumb sized black button. I cannot depress it and it does not come out. Will it open the lift gate or unlock it?
