1997 850 NA MIssing Moon Roof Parts? Diagram?

Post by BlackThunder »

Hi I am still having issues with how my 850's moon roof open and closes. I know I've talked about this before but I am still in need of some help. When looking at how to remove the glass I saw that there are some plastic lateral pieces that slide on the rails and move into "stops" to help tell the motor when to stop as far as being closed or open. My car does not have these. In fact you can see all of the sliders and mechanisms.

I am going to Borton Volvo (dealer in MN) this week and was hoping to see if I could get some parts for this. But I'd like to sound more informed than just, "I need those sun roof thingies." Does anyone have a diagram or part number?

For the past 7 years I've been just closing the moon roof then between the switch and my hand out the window on the roof I've been able to tell if it is closed or not. There is no stop to close or stop between tilting up and closed.

Does any of this make sense?

So I am missing the piece that the tabs that are circled slide into, right? That's what tells the motor to stop, right?
Here is a picture of what I see - I know I am missing more than the parts that the tabs slide into. I think there is a dress up piece too?

I'm not sure what those covers are technically called, but they are used for covering up the screws which hold the sunroof glass to the mechanism. If you're interested I may have a pair of them (one for each side) I would be glad to sell you. I recently replaced the whole sunroof mechanism on my 850 T5 and should have extra parts lying around. Let me check my garage tonight and if you're interested please send me a PM.

They are purely decorative covers, there are no sensors in them.

This system has a controller that gets calibrated
to know when it's in the completely closed state.

There's a procedure to program the moonroof
to find it's "home" position, but I'm on an iPad
without the right bookmarks right now...

Thanks, everyone.

I get that there is a decorative piece but isn't there something for the sliders (the protruding knobs) to slide into and stop? If there isn't then maybe I need to pop off the cover and mess with the moon roof motor?

Thank you, again, for the help everyone!

OK, so after looking at my second picture I see a slot where the tabs would go, I guess. So it must be time to mess with the moon roof motor.

The problem I have is that it doesn't have any predefined "stops." Stops closed flat and stops for in between tilted and flat. I have to keep monkeying with the button to get it to be where I want it to be.

I also, assume, that adjusting those Torx screws adjusts the height of the glass, right?

Thank you, as always, for all the help!

The torx screws do indeed adjust the glass. In order to make my moonroof work properly on one of the cars - I can't remember which one - I ran it to each stop and then held the button for an additional five or ten seconds. I repeated the procedure for each stop along the way. After that I think it continued to work.

I rarely if ever use any of them but my wife and my kids haven't complained about them so I assume they work OK.

I'm wondering if I'm having this problem because I don't have an auto switch? [attachment=0]2014-08-15 08.20.40.jpg[/attachment
