93 to 97 850 head interchange

Got the head off and home. Broke a 3/8 breaker bar and a ratchet on the head bolts. good part is, someone had come and taken off the exhaust manifold! Yay!
Car seemed to be well taken care of mechanically, showed 210k on the odo with miles showing on the trip odo, so I will assume correct mileage.
I do think.the valve seals were shot, as 3 of the cylinders have oily exhaust ports.
There is a good amount of sludge buildup in the oil passages on the top cover, so I think I will have the head an top cover tanked before the head is decked.
Best part, I left the intake attached to the head, and they only charged me for the head.

I have an early 1994 850 with the VVIS system. Once when I did a PCV job on it, I did not put the vacuum hoses back correctly so the VVIS was not working properly and my MPG went to hell. I was getting 17 MPG in the city and barely 24 on the highway. Once I figured it out I went up to 23 in City and 32 on the highway. I know these early 850's have different ECUs, so I'm not sure if it is "tuned" to work with the VVIS or not. No question the car will still run, but if you have poor gas mileage that may be your issue. Good luck.
