Spring failure

Post by Rocky »

Don't normally drive our XC70 2003 vintage but in the last fee days noticed it was looking odd.
Lopsided. Low. On the drivers side.
Pull out the jack lift up the body and spot the lowest portion of the spring had completely broken off.
Have never had this happen on any other car in thirty five years of driving.
Parts cost alone is massive. Replacing struts and top mount bearings to since all that has to come out anyway.
Is this common on there cars?

Sort of. Never happened to me with our P2s (got it on 6yo VW), but people do complain.

Quite common on P2 XC's if it's been driving through salt roads all its life.
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

Broke both coils on the 2006 X3 BMW

It may have been related to an off road incident, but I can't recollect more, your Honour.
