1999 s70 T5 tranny issue

Suddenly I lost all drive gears . I could tell there was an issue so I coasted into empty lot. From there I put it in all gears and nada. no lights either. shifted up and down, up and down.,..nothing. engine rpm changed a little..

Turned off car and sat a minute. turned it back on and it worked so I drove it home .

now what do I do? I really want to blow it the hell into a million pieces but...

Did you have a flashing up arrow light at any time?

Has anything else been recently done, such as an axle replacement?

I did replace the axles couple months ago. no flashing arrow at all.

someone what do i do? since I have been home and moved it twice it shows no sign of issue. I am thinking first thing to do is drain all tranny fluid and replace.

Dexron III is what I need I gather from search. I just need to make it through tomorrow and try to drain tomorrow

A drain and fill can never hurt anything so long as you get it filled back up. Dex III is correct.

The reason I asked about the axles is that your symptoms sound very much like a left side axle that isn't fully seated. I would take a look there as well.

+1 on the axle recommendation. Several members have had axles pop out and lose all power with no other apparent symptoms.

well...after changing the fluid it ran fine but wouldnt upshift above 45. thought maybe it was low so added more fluid.

soon after the tranny quit again. it would work after it cooled off but would quickly quit working as if the clutch bands were worn out.

not going to fix it so sadly I will be saying goodbye to the volvo. dang nice car considering it had 197K on it and ran fantastic.

Had you done any tranny fluid service prior to this?

no I didnt, my fault on not checking it.

just started acting up recently but so slight I really wasnt sure. then all of sudden one day it just quit working and then I changed the fluid. worked great except would not go into final gear cruising down road.

fluid was pretty bad so I am guessing the bands burned up.

decided not going to spend $2500 on tranny repair
