2004 XC70 HID self leveling low beams going in and out
I recently purchased an '04 xc70 w/self leveling low beams and HID's but there's and issue . The issue switches from L to R when u change headlight mode with dial selector. With dial selector pointed up the drivers low beam will go on/off and switch to passenger side w/selector pointed left. I thought I read about an issue w/these headlights but I haven't had any luck finding anything on this site.

I'd start troubleshooting at the dial sw to make sure it outputs correct voltage, wiring dia and meter required. It sounds like the electric motors in the headlight work.

"knock on wood", yes there functional motors...from what I've tested it looks like the ballast are faulty.draser wrote:I'd start troubleshooting at the dial sw to make sure it outputs correct voltage, wiring dia and meter required. It sounds like the electric motors in the headlight work.

One of the electrodes had a crack on the ceramic part so I replaced the bulb and had to get the other bulb because they were 4300k oppose to the 6000k that came w/the car. The bulbs are Wagner's and I'm disappointed with the distance they cover in front of you while driving. They provide an excellent amount of peripheral vision(180'degrees) but falls short up front. The headlight ballast to bulb wire harness had a little bit of scorching on inside of connector plug were it makes contact w/xenon bulb post. I tried cleaning/scraping scorched area and put some dielectric grease on contact areas. Other than that the self leveling factory HID headlights w/glass lens is a sick option!! I know some like the '05 lens look but it's plastic and it will eventually glaze over. If I had bought a xc70 that had factory halogen bulbs without the self leveling option I would just retrofit some Morimoto projectors w/HID's but I like the factory self leveling HID option.

I'm guessing most MVS members don't have the factory xenon headlights since I only got one reply, I was hoping to find out what some of you guys think is the best brand xenon bulbs for these lenses. I had to quickly purchase some Wagner bi-xenon bulbs since the electrodes were damaged. I'm thinking about trying the Sylvania D2R's...

Sylvania sounds good. Any known brand or dealer in cases like this, since thers are all kinds of low quality kits out there.
