Anybody have any tips for removing the brake line side of the flex lines in front?
my flare wrench, 9/16 seems to fit the hose side, I think it might be 11MM on the brake line. I seemed to get a good grip, but am now starting to round off the brake line side. Liberally squirted with PB blaster. Can I, should I put heat to the flex line side? Or do I need to consider replacing the hard line from the master cylinder. Such a damn simple job, and an old man is stuck! Not all corroded, just stupid tight.
Thanks

I will cut the flex hose free so the two ends are independent at respective connections.
This may help a little too https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37721

I use some BP Blaster and let it work in for about 15 minutes. I then clean it off with brake cleaner spray then apply heat via propane torch. Comes right off. you may get some ignition from the PB Blaster residue, have a damp rag handy. I seem to recall that one side was SAE and the other metric. Only turn the metal line side. The flex hose side should be stationary.

Thanks Kahl, All of that didn't work for me and god knows I tried. Apparently an 11MM flare wrench is only ever been use on a volvo, couldn't find one anywhere. I've got everything totally screwed up. I think I've rounded off the metal line side so bad the line will need to be replaced. This job turned into a cf very very quickly and now I'm so jammed up I'll need to bring it someplace to get it fixed. I didn't want to start cutting lines etc since I sort of figured I'd need to bring it to somebody once this line coupling acted up. so totally annoying to get hung by a straight-forward task. I'm not so much pi**ed off as I am thinking I'm just getting too old for all of this. might be a 2015 corrolla in my future (I'd rather hang myself). DAMN!!!!

hey Rm, shit happens. back in 73 after spending 2 days trying to figure out how to get my rear drum off on my 122S the postman came over and whacked it off in about 30 seconds. he then helped me replace the wheel cylinder. took about 15 minutes. to this day for me brake line work I am scared to tackle.
Take a file and clean up that line nut. I wish you were close so we could tackle that nut together.

When this happened to mine I cut the copper pipe with a pipe cutter to keep the edge round and reflared the pipe whilst on the car there's a bit of play in the pipes to do this I had to do all 4 this way on my awd

Yeah, cut and reflare would probably work. I'm ordering the parts now, flex lines and such and will talk to the mechanic next week to see if he'll give the reflare business a shot. It's the passenger side front line. I haven't traced it to see how all it goes into place but hoping that for a Volvo tech, this might be simple. These guys work pretty sporadically but they are good. I stated working on the front brakes because I was waiting on parts for a parking brake repair and had front pads I want to install anyway. The parts arrived on my stoop later in the afternoon. I think I'll bring the whole shebang to them and let them fix the thing. As annoyed as I am here, finding those cracked lines now is probably a very good thing. I have a flare tool, but I have just never gotten it to work well with steel lines, OK on that greenish line you can buy now, but tough on the steel.

Well, being as it is brakes and I'm out of time to play, I have ordered 2 flex lines for the front and PN's 6819413 & 6819040 hard lines. These parts, my previously ordered parking brake parts and the car will be going to the indy mechanic. The hard lines probably aren't necessary but will maybe make up some labor side costs. There were about $30 each, flex lines were $18 ea. I'll ask the mechanic to evaluate the rear flex lines while he's in there. Yeah, they must be copper lines already since there's no rusting going on and this is a NE car. I like spending some money with a good mechanic regardless. I never realized how good my car actually is until looking at a couple of 97 850's and some other 98's. I don't mind going the extra mile to have it properly fixed. The calipers are a tad ugly but not leaking and the dust boots are OK so just pads this time around. I ordered my parts from Tasca as they are only 5 miles away so quick ship and volvo parts. Shooting for 300K miles and retirement
