2003 S40 Fuel pump operation

Post by montez27 »

2003 s40, 160k miles. Bought it not running. Previous owner says it went into the car wash (long propelled wash) When it came out the other end it wouldnt start.
It will turn over but wont start. I got it started but it idles terrible and you cant even crack the accelerator open or it will die.
Fuel pressure was very low(I didn't meassure it with a gauge but it barely came out of the schrader valve. I thought there was higher pressure at the fuel filter schrader valve but it still wasn't 40psi worth.
So I replaced the regulator, didn't fix it. Replaced the filter, didn't fix it.
Check the fuse and power at the fuse. 12 volts is only present for approx 3 sec when you first turn the key on. Power goes away and doesn't return.
What controls the fuel pump? Relay, computer, fuel pump safety(is there one that can be reset).
I will get me a manual for sure.
Looking for a direction to go here
Thank you
