Hi, firstly apologies if this is in the wrong place but I looked for this in the other V70 threads (i.e. >2000) but all the pictures showed my 850 engine and not my V70 engine - if I'm in the wrong place can a Mod move it for me?
Anyhoo, on with the question - did an engine swap, all is good but can't get the cruise to work.
I've had a scout around the engine and can't see anything obvious that's not been connected. Just wondered is there's a multi-plug or hose I may not have reattached.
All help welcome.

In the US the 2000 model year uses ME7 engine management which is all electronic. There is a lot less tolerance for mismatched stuff with this than the 850 models.
What year engine did you put in!

At the risk of getting nuked I'm going to move you to the 850 / P80 forum since that is the car that you have.
Did you use your original ETM or the one with the replacement engine? As you know, the 2000 is "fly by wire" and the cruise control directly controls the throttle module. There aren't any other lines or hoses involved. With an ETM fault the first thing that gets "turned off" by the computer is the cruise control.
You really need to scan the system with VIDA/DICE to see if there is a system error. Stuff like cruise control won't show up with a standard P code scanner.

Hi, used the original ETM as nothing came with the engine except ..er... the engine
I've the VOL-FCR on a laptop but can't get it to 'talk' to the V70 through the OBD connector(again no issue with doing this on the 850)
I don't know the age of the engine, only that it was a straight like for like swap - B5234T3 for the B5234T3

Vol-fcr won't work on your car.

If you changed out the engine between the manifolds, with everything else that was in the car before the swap it should all work. As Matty said, VOL-FCR won't do anything for your 2000, it takes VIDA and DICE to scan it.
I bought a DICE unit since I hate paying the dealers to scan my 1999. There are actually some reasonably priced units that come from China (under $150.00 DHL shipped to your door). If you check out the "Tools" forum there are several threads about the DICE units. Without a DICE scan you are flying blind when it comes to anything but P codes. Depending on where you are there may be a member near you that has a DICE and would scan it. It might be worthwhile to post a request in the 'Help A Neighbor" forum.

New development (or discovery might be a better term) Sitting in the car this morning whilst on the drive (so no traffic noise) I pressed my foot onto the brake prior to engaging drive a hissing sound that was present stopped - released the brake and it started again - pressed the brake and it stopped.
I know I should have noticed the hissing sound first but I have mild tinnitus so the odd hissing sound is 'normal'
Don't know if there's a connection to the cruise issue?

That is great news. The hissing sound you referenced when the brake is applied has me scratching my ever balding head. On the earlier versions, pre 1999, there is a vacuum line at the brake pedal to kill the cruise control by releasing the vacuum at the servo bellows on the accelerator pedal but there is no such vacuum servo bellows on the 1999 and 2000 cars. A bad switch on the brake pedal would necessarily cause the cruise to not operate.
Was the cruise light on the instrument cluster coming on even when the cruise control wasn't working?

Hi Lee, nothing on the display when it wasn't working but it's there now and I've been out and tested it from 30-80 mph - accelerated and resumed previous setting, braked and resumed - switch off and on whilst moving and when stationary - who knows!
