Hi folks,
Tried to fit a new top mount to the 2000 V70R today, and it came from IPD as I was buying some other stuff from there anyway. I bought the mount they claim is the better mount which has the square rubber mount rather than the older round one. When I tried to fit it, it jams against the black frame that runs back to the firewall mount on one side.
They claim that this is an optional fit by Volvo, but I can't see how unless you modify the LH side of the mount or the aluminum plate on the LH side of the new mount. Either way I can't see how this is something Volvo would do. Has anyone tried this before?
Neil.

The other mounts are ok. Re-installed the original one no problem as it does not have the endplate on it on the LH side. On the link below, it shows both mounts at the bottom of the page. The original is the one on the left. The rubber position is the same both sides. The 'upgrade' as fitted to P2 models has an aluminum plate that you can see in my photos. This jams on the support frame preventing it sitting flat an the bolt hole aligning. To make it 'fit' will require grinding wither the black frame (thus possibly weakening it) or grinding away some of the aluminum plate which is possibly the safer option as it does not damage anything of significance.

The dealer replaced the lower LH rear engine mount (for free!!) for me. I am now going to see what the mount looks like when I eventually get the car back next week after tranny oil seal surgery.
Kahl, did you have to modify the bracket in any way? You definitely look like you have clearance which I don't have.
Thanks,
Neil.

Thanks again Kahl! I'll check the hole has threads. If not, I have a tap to cut one. It is easier to do off the car! Like I said, I will re-check the fit on it's return sometime next week. Appreciate the follow up! I'll update once I get it fixed.

As promised kahl, I have an update. The car ended up staying with the dealer for a few extra days waiting for a front seal for the trans that had failed again. While they were in there, they must have replaced the top torque mount, as I was going into do it today, and found it already fitted (it was in the box of parts I supplied for checking). I reckon you were 100% correct in your assessment in the lower LH rear mount being the problem, as I can't see any 'mod's' to make it fit, and it now looks like the picture you posted of yours. So many thanks!!
On that mount, how do you tell when they fail, as the plates either side hide the rubber. Reason I'm asking is the 06 XC70 has the same mount and I get a 'clunk' when the engine starts up. If you move the top mount bracket it looks like the rubber mount moves too.
