New Dice units - win 7 pro only?

I know, I know, not another dice question.......
My v40 has thrown up a couple of random check engine lights latey. They seem to reset once the engine is turned off. Anyway I thought its a good time to finally buy myself a dice unit. I setup an old laptop a year or so ago for this use and made sure it was running xp pro, now when I had a look through eBay all the listings are saying win 7 pro only. Can I run with xp pro now or do I need to update to win 7 pro? Or can I just use an older version of Vida successfully with the new dice unit?

Any thoughts or ideas? I can get a valid win 7 pro licence, but not for another 2 months or so as I can't get to my usually source for it. For the record I don't really have any cracking need to update the operating system on this laptop as its only function is in the shed for diagnostic/repair purposes with my cars

If you download the virtual machine version of VIDA that should run fine on XP Pro. Otherwise the installation program won't let you proceed unless you do have Win 7 Pro and a gob of RAM (I forgot the actual requirement as far as RAM goes but it is big).

They are big downloads but, once downloaded, it is a fairly simple installation from what I've heard.

I helped a friend load the virtual image one day and afterwards he connected his Dice with no problems. The image has a built in Dice driver which will "talk" to the inherent OS on the laptop.

Actually all VIDA versions up to 2014A should work and install on XP Pro.
Since 2014B won't install because XP currently is not supported officially.
But no support does not mean it not works in this case

finally had my dice unit arrive. Took the slow boat from china (literally). Got it all working from the linked files in the above thread
