Getting only 15-16 MPG combined driving...

Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.

I call it the "Stuff Hitting the Fan" stage 2. Otherwise known as the "Short Term Fuel Trim".

Vac line was apparently knocked off last time I was under the hood-cause of the High STFT reading. That's fixed.
Changed the front O2 to try to resolve the bad gas mileage. I'll bet that takes care of it.

After driving 90 miles commuting,
avg speed = 27mph
Sport Mode
AC ON
91 gas
I still am getting 15mpg.
I guess that's about it.

Something is definitely wrong. Under similar average commuting stop and go with a non-turbo 5 speed, I get 25 mpg plus. Manuals may be a bit stingier than autos, but no way is it worth 10 mpg.

And my results are with 89 octane, and perhaps sometimes even 87. I have a hilly c. 30 mile commute with 20 stoplights and still manage 25+ mpg, but I don't have AWD. I can't believe the AWD is a massive mileage suck.

I drove a 2004 XC and a 2005 manual FWD on identical highway routes this summer and saw 26 mpg on the LPT and 34 mpg on my stick. Meanwhile my T5 stick gets 28 mpg on that route. AWD might account for 4 mpg of the delta at most, and only 2 mpg if I compare the two turbo cars

I've noticed a drastic improvement in efficiency when I disable the 'sport mode' on the device located between the seat and the steering column... :o
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that
