1997 850AWD Interchangable Parts?

Post by Fogducker »

I own a 1997 850AWD, I have a chance to pick up a complete parts vehicle, it is a 2001 XC70, I realize a lot of parts are not interchangable but some are, what I am wondering is if it is worth it for the number of parts I would actually be able to use?? I am not 100% what parts I could actually install from the XC70 on to the 850..... :?:

Body and chassis wise there is pretty much nothing that interchanges but there might be some stuff under the hood.

You need get a copy of VIDA running so that you can check part numbers. We have links to a virtual machine version in one of the VIDA/DICE threads.

Thanks Lee, I will search for the VIDA thread. I realize "most" parts won't fit but hoping some parts that I need will........ seats? rear bumper? spare engine and electrical parts etc....

The seat mounts are not compatible nor are the bumpers. Some of the engine parts will swap. Given enough time and energy you might be able to modify things to make the front seats work but it will be anything but a bolt up replacement. The SIPS bags are electronic on the later models whereas your 850 seats are mechanically actuated so you will also lose the SIPS if you were able to rig up a mounting system. The seat belt anchors are also totally different.

Cylinder head is redesigned on a 2001. Anything over 98 has the new heads. Not certain about this however you may be able to continue to use the old style cam sensor and distributor drive as the mounting holes for distributor are still there. Can't say the same for the cam sensor though. I have a 2001 on a stand and the cam sensor side is not visible due to the large mount.

Fuel delivery is also different in the way fuel pipe is routed and attached.

Running traditional spark plug leads on a later head would be a gamble due to the depth of the newer heads being smaller. You COULD cut the lead boots to suit.

The engine blocks are sinilar and have improvements in sump design with built in oil cooling and also use an oil spray system which directs oil into cylinder bores.

Don't think there is enough to make it worth while. Wheels should work but not much else. I'd look for a 98 S/V70 or older as a spares car. Even a 98 V70 XC or V70 AWD.They have a lot of shared parts.

My opinion for what it is worth!
