Bad mounts won't kill the transmission; they'll just make gear changes go in with a nice thunk or jerk as the transmission is briefly not putting power down.

I would change the fluid again, and maybe once more in a few weeks, and cross your fingers that it gets better. Reverse requires higher fluid pressures to engage, so it is usually the first to go out when parts start to wear or valve bodies clog internally.

Don't use ATF additives in the AW50-42, just stick to clean ATF.

The valve body's clogging can sometimes be solved with a good flush, but again, if you are thinking about taking it to a shop make sure that you trust them and they know what going on - a bad flush can cause early death.

Just to clarify, when I said additives I did not mean off the shelf autozone crap - there are friction and viscosity modifiers that Aisin Warner lists as acceptable for certain issues.

If the trans goes, how hard is it to replace the trans? Is it doable in a personal garage? Cost?
