2001 V70 T5 transmission slipping

Post by luckycharms »

My daughter was rearended in our 2001 v70 t5 which was running like brand new. So i bought another 2001one v70 t5. It would drive a very ahort distance then act as though it went into neutral. Turn the key off for a minute. Start the car and repeat. Drive a block and then again like its in neutral. And display that shows which gear the car is in and the outside temperature would then have a display like ---|---
The fluid smelled burnt so i swapped the transmission out of her original wrecked car. She drove it to work for 2 days.(approximately 10 miles).
Day 3 she drove to work. Stopped to eat lunch for 1/2 hour. Drove the car about 2 more miles and it acted like it went into neutral. Had it towed home. When they dropped it I started it and its doing the exact same thing the other transmission was doing? If anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it. :)

The 2001 transmission is a known weak model year. It's likely a used or rebuilt transmission is in your future.

But i just replaced the transmission with one that i know is(or was)good. Something burned both transmissions up in this car. Could the TCM be causing it?

Could be a list of things inlcuding wrong type of fluid, low level, etc. - which fluid did you fill? Did you have the TCM firmware updated and adaptations done?
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

I used valvoline max life full synthetic. No mixing of fluids. But the few days i drove it i kept having to add coolant. Found a crack in the radiator just below the upper hose. I wonder if running the car hot 3or 4 times has cooked the transmission fluid?

I don't think you can overheat the transmission by overheating the car. The coolant temperature in the radiator won't get up near the 200F it can be at the engine, and trans oil will go to 200F all day with no problem...it probably does this every time you go up a hill.
