This 1985 745 turbo wagon. Good project car buy?

Post by 85turbo »

So im new to Volvo in its entirety, I haven't even been in one. I was looking for a cool project car and found a 1985 745 turbo wagon with the 5 speed and was wondering what you all think. Is this a good price for it maybe things I need to look for when I go look at it ect. like I said im totally new to this world but these cars are sweet, plus its hard to beat a turbo car that's rear wheel drive and manual.

thanks in advance!

Your link doesn't go to a specific car, and the group of cars it goes to does not contain an '85 Volvo.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

1998 V70, no dash lights on

1997 850 T5 [gone] w/ MSD ignition coil, Hallman manual boost controller, injectors, R bumper, OMP strut brace

It's very dirty, inside and out. Is it a project car? Yes.

Power steering - Upto several hundred bucks....all depending

Heater bearing - Shop time is around 8 hours or so...can you say, "go ahead, make my day?"

No electronic overdrive - Either solenoid is shot, or transmission's pump is shot; if the latter, several hundred bucks or more....transmission will function without fixing this issue, but there will not be an overdrive. So, if driven locally, no big deal.

Muffler - Like several hundred bucks for a new muffler system.

Fuel injector could be replaced - $15.00 per injector to be cleaned, if this is the case.

My 2c. If you really want all 3 ; RWD, Turbo & Stick then with a good service history of records etc this could be a good project .....No service history then you are taking chances . ( ya know)

If you can do with the RWD & Turbo and drive an Automatic then you may want to keep pokin' around.

Same rule though for at least some service history in the last 5-7 years or so.....

Good luck and I just picked up a 1990 project 760 turbo wagon automatic and even with the work it need ( see Newbie post below yours.) it is a real tank and lots of fun to drive ....Wagon Sunroof RWD & Turbo = Fun to drive. Ibet there is alot you can do with these old wagons. They are built like frieght trains.

It's a "beater," something to be driven locally. Your basic beater is worth $500.00.

I put miles/miles on my vehicles, so I end up spending upto $2K after I buy them so they are road worthy; but, with a local beater, you just fix what is needed, like that heater-fan.

He didn't say what vehicle was going to be used for...

Myself, I'd avoid both of these, diesel and turbo vehicles. My 1981 VW Rabbit's front end dropped out...its unibody, like Volvos, so always examine suspension points, front and rear.

I've seen better vehicles in your state, but more green backs are needed.
