Thinking about picking up a V50 for my wife as a daily driver. She drives the '98XC now, which gets terrible gas mileage and requires a good bit of maintenance (although I think I hit the plateau and all is well for a while).
What are your thoughts on the V50? Are there good/bad model years? What should I look out for? Any peculiar issues?
Thanks!

I looked and drove a 2005 2.4i today. It has 95k miles on it. Recently had all fluids flushed (except for trans), right motor mount replaced, and oil changed (mobil1 every 3500 miles). The interior is a little beat up - can you still buy replacement window switch covers (the piece they are mounted to in the door panel) and other little interior pieces from Volvo? I would need to replace a few.
There are also a few scratches here and there. He wants $5900, and says its negotiable.

Sounds good to me, but it's not my nickel. The promise that it had regular oil changes is reassuring, if true. It will need trans flush soon as well as timing belt right now due to age, not miles. Ten year old rubber parts will still be ten years old.
Parts are generally available. Have a look at tascaparts.com. If you plan on doing the wrenching, get and learn how to use the DiCE / VIDA support system. Chinese clones are cheap and VERY useful.
