1999 c70 Lost key FOB

Post by volvooh »

So I cannot find my key fob for my 1999 C70...I suspect it is hiding somewhere in the house, but I am trying to get my options to replace it. The dealer wants $400 + plus for the FOB and programming (including $64 to cut a new key- said it had a microchip???).

I am seeing replacements, new and used, on Ebay. A new one I found for $38.00 only works on a S and V 70 model from the same year, go figure...

Can I buy a used or new FOB and have it programmed for my C70 or is the dealer my only option?

Unfortunately used remotes are worthless. There is a specific code number that comes on the package with the remote that must be programmed, via VIDA with a DICE interface, into the VGLA module. The same thing applies to the key although some have extracted the chip from a good key that is programmed to the car and taped it to the bottom of the steering column and then just used unchipped keys.

New chipped keys also come with the code numbers on the package and that code number must be programmed into immobilizer module or the car won't start.

It sucks but the dealers have us by the nuts on both of them.

Well, based on that info, I resumed my search in earnest...and found them! Fell behind my desk. Problem solved. I should go spend $400 on myself now, since I was going to have to anyway to replace the keys.
