All the Dice hardwate I've come across has allowed firmware updates using the Volvo factory software. Of course there could be anomalies out there.
Dice 206751 is the correct term for the hardware. The latest fw allows guys like Henry (doublebug) to use your Dice unit as a passthrough for programming.
You can use this link from my server to have access to the latest fw 5.6.2 : https://mega.co.nz/#!d1YWXDpD!J__iOsuj9 ... hqkO_qJ_2U
Also the instructions for diagnostic program: https://mega.co.nz/#!tsgWnayK!MNxM9mD2F ... WoZXYw9cy4
Where did you purchase yours from Xheart?

What I meant was the chipset in copycat units may not be stable and some have been known to not allow firmware updates. I would hope that these have gotten better but who polices knock-off units?

My Dice causes system (Vida) crash when about to do ETM test on early Denso cars. No problems with Bosch cars though.
You are right jimmy no control over the hardware quality and so many sellers out there. I've been steering se posters to where I've bought and supplied about 6 of them with zero problems as I used to sell them. I stopped selling them due to buyers not being able to overcome IT install issues without my assistance and it became very time consuming.

A small bragging...
Past few weeks, our 2001 V70XC would stall suddenly once or twice each week, but then start normally.
I have been tinkering with DiCE a little each day since the hook up.
I found a DTC, ECM 1300 - Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor - Flow too low.
It was a live diagnostic/test while engine idling over the DiCE hook up. I will clear the code in delivery, then it will come right back each time.
Last night used following two MVS posts to fix the issue. It has been awesome driving since. DTC hasn't returned. The car is now with my wife and daughter running flawlessly all day on a 1000 miles round-trip to St. Paul, MN. I am a hero again! What Fun!

Thank you for the links, Mike.
I downloaded the MOT file.
I tried several different 12 V power supply adapters from home depot to radioshack. DiCE did not light up. Now wondering if the 12 V port is inactive, like the comment by coflynn, board with no SD card and bluetooth connections.
One associate at AZone says, it is a dealer item. Any pointers?

I use an old IBM THinkbook power supply and it works fine. I think it is a 15.4 V dc 1.8A
Volvo master DiCE kit comes with a alligator clip lead with the appropriate plug on end and that will operate it even with a less than stellar battery.

DiCE has its own status LEDs: whenever power is applied - regardless of DATA/USB/BT connection status - the FW status indicator (the topmost green LED) should keep flashing ON-OFF-ON-OFF...etc. at about 1.5Hz frequency with 50% duty cycle. (That is, about 3 times in every two seconds).
Dumb question (I really hope it is):
When connecting the external sources of 12VDC, did you observe correct polarity? Most electronic devices work so long as we keep the smoke inside
Please do not ask me how I know

Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.

It may appear as though we are gradually departing from the topic - but the great news is that we've reached an electronic consensus to maintain a smoke-free environmentprecopster wrote:...I never exhale when using cigarettes...
