1990 760 Turbo Wagon - Heater blower FUSE keeps blowing

Post by 90 Beater »

I own my '90 760 T Wagon for 6 days now . ( pictured below.) 8) First couple of days my AC and fans worked ok with no problems. AC cold and fans blowing out of all vents. I had no noticeable issues. 3 nights ago we had heavy rains and while I was driving my AC control " Blue Showflake" button began to flash non stop.

After like 3 -4 minutes Fan stopped and fuse blew . Changed fuse and it blew right away again.

I am looking for any ideas why I am having problem with my Heater Fan / fuse blowing ....

The wagon is at my indy mechanic now getting checked out. So far this is what I know from his first look before closing today. My aux fan ( in front of the radiator) is not moving. The compressor is pulling too much power from the aux fan, and so is the blower motor.

There is what I think is another unrelated electrical issue in that my horn wiring is a mess. The horn was not working and the ground is not hooked up.

My cruise control is also not working but also maybe unrelated.

My mechanic said I could have some real problems being that it is difficult to diagnose since the fuse will blow once he turns on the system.

Any suggestions on how to begin to sort this FAN / FUSE issue I would appreciate. I called my trusted AC shop today and he said maybe the coil is bad on my compressor.

Thanks, Austin

Unplug the a/c compressor clutch and try the fuse again. If the fuse blows again, plug the compressor back in and unplug the blower motor. Repeat fuse test.

Fuse 28 is for compressor and blower motor in a/c and heater system. Is that the fuse that is blowing?

They are calling 8/3 the compressor solenoid. It is a mistake as that is the compressor clutch. Probably a translation error as I guess a magnetic winding that moves an armature is a solenoid and the clutch plate could be considered an armature.

Yes. That is the # 28 Fuse. Car still up by the mechanics shop & he is going to work OT Sunday.
I may head up there and try to help with isolating the issue as suggested by Lummert above.
