2000 V70 boost leak? or bad BOV? shaky front end

Post by NSFWaldo »

Hey guys! so this summer I've done alot of upgrades to my 2000 v70 and its been so much fun doing it. Of course now about the time for winter is when I start getting problems I have to fix.

I upgraded to a 16t turbo with full obx exhaust and snabb intake and got a tune from ARD so I push about 15-16psi max. I have an old HKS version 1 adjustable BOV instead of the recirc valve that comes on these turbos. I also have the stock intercooler piping for now. I know its not the best choice at this point.

When I push the 15psi constantly for about 20 seconds it will begin to decrease slightly then it will blow off suddenly WHILE holding the throttle down and boost will drop all the way. If I open up the throttle again right after it doesn't boost past the stock 6psi. my original thoughts were maybe the tune is funny and is resetting when it does that or something? then I've been looking for leaks everywhere and am not seeing any at all. when i first plugged the tune in it was happening where the boost gauge line would pop off causing the bov to open and cause this whole situation, but now its something completely different. Could this be from the old BOV being worn out and slowly opening from all the boost pressure? this seems the most logical to me now because I cant find a leak anywhere else.

SECOND, :D I replaced the front axles recently becuase all my cv boots were open and leaking and it was about time. After I replaced both of them the front end started to shake at higher RPMs. If I go WOT the car will just vibrate fairly violently, but it doesn't do it if I'm just cruisin through town at 25-30 mph and low RPMs. someone told me this goes away with another axle replace? is it common for axles to be bent or warped when replacing em on these? one of the CV boots is already leaking again so I think I will try to get it replaced under warranty and see if this fixes my issue.

ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED :D :D Thanks guys!!

as far as the shakey front end, i also forgot to mention that I have replaced the outer tie rods on both sides. would it be an issue with inner tie rods? they seemed pretty solid when I checked em the other day when I was looking for the cause of this.

Where or what axles did you install? If there was no vibration before you did the axles and now there is, either the parts you installed were of poor quality or something is not torqued. A worn or failed engine mount will also produce some vibration, particularly the front mount.

I replace inner tie rods when the arm flops down once the ball joint is removed from the spindal.

I replaced them with the proper axles. I ordered from autopartswarehouse.com because they are close to me and they were the only helpful place. I was wondering about the proper torque in certain places. I don't think the mount is bad because it was just after I replaced the axles. someone had told me they had the same issue and when they replaced the axle again it went away. you don't happen to know the torque setting for the front axles where they mount in the hub do you?

got a new axle coming today from warranty. I'm hoping that will fix the shakiness issue. still no luck on the boost leak. I tried plugging the weep hole on the intercooler to see if it would make a difference and it wont boost past like 7psi. sooo I'm lost on that one. I should be getting a new front mount intercooler kit here soon though.
