98 S70 Driver's side door will not open

My nephews have 5 Volvos and we do our own maintenance. On more than one occasion we have said WWRD? Robert should feel all the positive yellow sunshine on his brow.

I had this problem on my 97 v90. There is a plastic piece that connect the rod to the door handle and they break. The door won't open from the inside or the outside. I had this happen on more than one door. The pieces are cheap if you can find them on ebay, but otherwise they seem only to come with the door handle. Can't help with getting the door panel off, but once you do, swap the plastic piece with one of the other doors so that the drivers door will work until you can get another piece. Hope this helps.
