Hi all:
Recently purchased a 2002 V70XC. Rear windshield wiper was not working. Also the tailgate latch would not lock, info center gave tailgate open (even though it was latched) warning and a position bulb message. Took the latch/motor out and hooked up to a 12V source, motor and lock mechanism worked. Measured voltage at the connector and could find none. Measured voltage at the wiper connector and had 11.6V. Read in other forum posts about the wiring harness wire breaks at the hinge. I peeled back the harness wire cover at the hinge and about 12 wires broken. Spliced them all and now motor for lock works, tailgate open and position light messages gone. So I ordered a used wiper motor assembly, hooked it up, and it is not working. 3 wire connector for the wiper, black, white, and yellow wires. Voltage across the yellow (+) and black (-) measures 11.6V with a VOM. However, it measures 11.6V whether rear wiper switch is in position A (up) for intermittent wiping, position B (down) for normal wiping or the center position (off). The tailgate washer, on a separate circuit, works.
The rear wiper should work by itself in position A or B, the front wipers do not need to be on or any other function activated?
Are the yellow and black wires the correct wires to carry the voltage and the polarity is correct?
I assume I should be getting the 12V (actually 11.6) constantly in the normal wiping position B, intermittently when the switch is in the intermittent wiping position A, and never when in the off (center) position?
The used motor I purchased could be bad, but first I want to hash out the wiring and voltage issues.
What am I overlooking or need to check further?
Thanks in advance
2002 V70XC Rear window wiper motor/wiring
Hi...I can't help you further with the electrical issues you raised, but I can confirm that the rear window wiper should work independent of the front wipers. Intermittent, off, and normal switch positions are available on their own.

Yellow to black wire with should be 12V on the meter with the ignition on and rear wiper switch off, this is the supply the wiper motor uses to park when you switch the wiper off.
With the rear wiper switch set to on you should also get 12V between the white and black wire - Mike
