2004 S60 2.4l front rack and pinion parts search

I need to replace the front right rack and pinion on the Volvo S60 2004 2.4l. Two questions on the search for parts related to this specific need and parts search in general.

1. Is there a way to use VIN to check parts other than dealer for my model and make? tried VIN searches and only get limited specs not specific parts.

2. I see many possible suggestions to the rack and pinion parts to order. Confusing the situation is if mine needs power assist or non assist. I learned there may be two engines for my year.
