'96 V70XC Roof rack crossbar clamping screws

I'm relatively new to the Volvo scene, having purchased a non-running and somewhat tatty 855R earlier this summer. I've managed to nurse it back to some semblance of health, with a lot of help from the excellent information available here, but I've never got as far as posting. A huge thank you to the community here, and I hope that I can bring something to the table one day, too!

But back on topic... I stopped by the junkyard today, and found the relatively-fresh carcass of a '98 V70XC, complete with roof rails, with a set of what look to be genuine Volvo crossbars (or load bars, or whatever) attached to them. Since the roof trim strips on my car are pretty grotty, I thought I'd put the rails on it – having the ability to strap things to the roof might just come in handy.

However, on one side of one of the crossbars the Torx screw that clamps it to the roof rail was badly stripped, and ridiculously tight (I managed to ruin a screwdriver trying to get it out). Since I'd rather not leave the crossbars on all the time, I was thinking that I'd drill it out, but that leaves me with the question of how to replace it when I want to use the crossbars. I've found the diagram on volvopartswebstore.com, and it's #19 on this page that I'm after, but it doesn't appear to be listed for sale on the site. Other sites didn't seem to get me anywhere, but that could possibly be due to my own incompetence

. Does anybody know a source for this screw, or just what thread it is, so I can find some other workable replacement?

Unfortunately this usually means the part is no longer available new. I can't recall, but I think this is a Torx machine screw. I don't think the thread is anything special other than metric. Can you take it to a nut/bolt/hardware supplier and use wither a regular hex bolt, or see if they have a metric torx screw?
Otherwise it is a case of keeping an eye out for another turning up in a yard.

The thread on that fastener is standard M6 x 1.0. You can replace it with a machine screw as suggested, or hex head etc.; it won't have the security torx head of course (maybe you could find that but not sure it is worth it ...).

Thanks! With those dimensions, I managed to find a Ford part, N807780-S61, that, at least from the photos, looks exactly the same as the original, just with a regular, rather than security, Torx head. I'll buy a pack of them and see how it goes.

I bought a bunch of stuff along with these, not from this place but I cant find the bookmark for where I got them I was using a bunch of other types for a bar interior

Unfortunately, it's a no go. The length and thread are right, but the head is ever so slightly too big to fit in the recess in the top half of the clamp. Found a regular old machine screw that does the trick, but I'm still going to keep an eye out for something that looks more like the real deal.

Alas. Maybe use a Dremel or a grinding wheel to trim a hair off the screw head all the way around?
