Ok, this is really embarrassing; I did not properly mark the plug wires before pulling the coils, and now it appears they may not be right. Given I am in the process of replacing the ETM with a xemodex rebuilt unit, diagnosis is not straightforward.
The car will start, sounds like crap, the engine revs, sometimes backfires, and stalls... No codes. Further, I have given it a compression test, and it the numbers check out.
Based on an old wiring diagram that I believe is correct, I have taken a shot and have the following:
A-31 : 20/3 : Y - SB ( plug 1?)
A-30 : 20/4 : OR - SB
A-50 : 20/5 : BL - SB
A-52 : 20/6 : GR - SB
A-51 : 20/7 : Y - R ( plug 5?)
Where the ECM (4/46) connection points are A:31 - A:52, the plug references are 20/3 -> 20/7, and the colors and supposed mappings follow. Some of the pictures I Have seen show GR/SB on 5. Yet the placement in the harness has Y/R at the end, as does the diagram I found.
Any and all thoughts are most appreciated.
Warm regards and thanks for reading.

Just a quick note for anyone struggling with the same issue; the above is correct, according to a dealer mechanic.
